This page describes the CourtMan application suite in more detail.

Overview

CourtMan is an application suite for managing a badminton club including courts, players, games, scoring, picking, accounts and more...

The CourtMan suite is made up of three components that work together:

  • Cloud: Handles club events, sign-up for members and club information.
  • Windows app: The main application that holds detailed information about players, registration, games, courts, finances and reporting.
  • Phone: An Android application that lets individules score matches, see games on courts and register with the Windows host app.

History

We created the windows application several years ago, initially the focus was to help picking players for matches on courts to mix games up and balance players skills.

It quickly grew from there to add:

  • Player details, preferences, skill levels, history, photos...
  • Sessions to record player attendance to they could be picked
  • Courts to show multiple games, pick players and who is playing
  • Game results for history and changing player ability
  • Reports to show players, games, finances
  • Accounts to try and balance yearly membership, court fees, shuttle costs with player charges

Next we create an Android phone app for scoring the badminton game and integrated it via WiFi HotSpot to the main app. This allowed the scores to be seen in real time. It addition, people could register automatically via the phone app.

Invites have been sent out with email in the past, relying on people to reply to judge numbers. This had mixed success so we created this web application to be the public face of the club, manage events and accept/declines.

Uses

You can use one CourtMan component or all of them, so far we have:

  • Managed local clubs with up to 100 members, court usage, player picking etc.
  • Predicted finances for player fees in not-for-profit clubs
  • Used the integrated scoring app to stop cumbersome paper score sheets in competitions
  • Used the windows app or phone app to show people which court they are playing on and who the players are
  • Evaluated school students performance to pick teams for school competitions
  • Run some small tournaments with the tournamant feature

Integration

All three of the components work together so you need not retype information:

  • CourtMan cloud will synchronise Events and Players with the windows app
  • The windows app reads attendance for the event from the cloud for the current register
  • The Android phone app talks real-time to the windows app to update attendance and game scores
